Education and Background

I have a Master’s Degree in Acupuncture from the Traditional Acupuncture Institute (TAI Sophia) in Maryland. Founded in 1975, TAI is accredited by the National Accreditation Commission for Schools and Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. I entered TAI with the class of 1997 and began my acupuncture practice in 1999. Prior to moving home to Charlottesville, I helped teach the location of acupuncture points to students at TAI.

I am licensed to practice acupuncture by the Virginia Board of Medicine. I am also certified as a Diplomate in Acupuncture by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).

I received a B.A. with Honors from Swarthmore College in 1981.

Prior to studying acupuncture, I helped manage Innisfree, a community with adults with disabilities in Crozet, VA. I was on the Board of Innisfree during my first year of study. I coordinated the American branch of an international voluntary service and peace organization in the early 1990’s called Service Civil International. Currently, I am a volunteer with the Hospice of the Piedmont.
