Education and BackgroundI have a Master’s Degree in Acupuncture from TAI Sophia (formerly, the Traditional Acupuncture Institute). Founded in 1975, TAI Sophia is accredited by the National Accreditation Commission for Schools and Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. I entered TAI Sophia with the class of 1997 and began my acupuncture practice in 2000. I have taught acupuncture point location and eastern theory.I am licensed to practice acupuncture by the Virginia Board of Medicine (License #0121000161.) I am also certified as a Diplomate in Acupuncture by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). Since returning to Charlottesville and setting up a private practice, I have continued my study of acupuncture and adjunct therapies, including: fertility enhancement for women, mood disorders, pain management and craniosacral therapy. I have also worked as an acupuncturist for a UVA Medical School study which analyzed the effects of an acupuncture protocol on polycystic ovarian syndrome. Prior to studying acupuncture, I helped manage Innisfree, a community with adults with disabilities in Crozet, VA. I also coordinated the US branch of an international service and peace organization called Service Civil International. I have been a volunteer with the Hospice of the Piedmont and I currently volunteer with the Free Clinic for Veterans run by Central Virginia Community Acupuncture. I received a B.A. with Honors from Swarthmore College in 1981. |
